Peel Regional Police have charged two parents for allegedly abandoning a child in a vehicle.

The baby, who is under the age of one according to the news release, was left alone inside the car in the area of Tranmere Drive and Derry Road East in Mississauga on Tuesday, May 25.

Police were forced to smash the window of the car in order to get the baby out of the overheated vehicle, as temperatures that day were around 30 C, a police spokesperson told Global News.

The child was "in distress" when officers performed the rescue and was taken to a local hospital, where they are expected to make a full recovery, police said.

A 28-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman have been charged with failing to provide the necessities of life and abandoning a child. The parents are expected to appear in court on August 9.
