One drive-through COVID-19 testing centre in Ontario is seeing hundreds of no shows a day.

Why? Because people are booking multiple appointments, showing up to one of them, and then not cancelling the others.

Grand River Hospital in Kitchener-Waterloo is one of the assessment centres dealing with this problem.

Narcity spoke to Cheryl Evans, the hospital's manager of communications, on the issue.

Often 100+ appointments that are designated as scheduled, are not actually being used.

For the last nine days, the average amount of no-shows at Grand River Hospital was 101 per day, says Evans.

To cancel an appointment, people must call the testing centres, which often have long wait times.

Evans understands that many people don't want to wait for hours on hold. She offers this advice instead:

"Please do not book at multiple test sites if at all possible. This will ensure that you don’t have multiple appointments to keep track of, and cancel."

"If you need to cancel, be patient; many of our staff are answering incoming calls from community members."
