A 30-year-old Ontario woman is receiving treatment at Sunnybrook Hospital after a severe collision left her paralyzed from the waist down.

Jessi Rate, who was eight months into her pregnancy, was involved in a crash in Lindsey, Ontario, on Tuesday morning along with her 3-year-old son, who was not injured.

Rate, however, will never walk again, says a GoFundMe page started by Rate's good friend Sarah Ritchie, who writes that Rate and her family will now "need help more than ever" — Rate shares a one-bedroom apartment with her son Levi, her boyfriend Mason Hughes and his son as well as their dogs, according to Ritchie.

"They will need [to move] somewhere wheelchair accessible, as well as [get] a vehicle that can accommodate a wheelchair, and various medical bills as she will be in the hospital for quite some time, as well as to support their 3 young children as they work their way through this extremely difficult and new time."

At the time of publication, the GoFundMe has raised nearly $62,000 of its $150,000 goal. Ritchie wrote on April 21 that Rate's baby girl was born through an emergency C-section on Tuesday and "is doing well."
