What do England's soccer team and the Maple Leafs have in common? Well, according to some Torontonians, they both know how to break fans' hearts.

A stark comparison between the two sports giants began brewing up on Twitter on Sunday, following the Brits' devastating loss to Italy at the on Sunday.

Longtime supporters of the Leafs were quick to realize that this isn't the first time they have been let down by their favourite team.

The England team was close to bringing home the win, making it to the Euro finals for the first time in 55 years.

With the Maple Leafs last winning the Stanley Cup in 1967, 54 years ago, it's no surprise that fans were able to make the comparison between teams.

"England. You'll never walk alone... because you'll always have the Toronto Maple Leafs," wrote one user.

Other users are hoping the loss brings hope that the Maple Leafs will also be able to make it to the finals with their dry spell.

"If it took England 55 years to reach a final... maybe the Toronto #MapleLeafs can as well..." wrote another user.

If Leafs fans have learned anything over the past decade, it's to never give up hope.
