Toronto's Famous Jamaican Patties Are Back At This TTC Station & People Are Thrilled

Prior to the pandemic, Toronto TTC commuters were often greeted in the mornings with the smell of freshly baked Jamaican patties in subway stations like Bathurst. For the past couple of years that sweet smell was gone, until now.

If you were a regular commuter, you probably remember the smell of Fahmee's Bakery's Jamaican patties in subway stations. However, the bakery shut down its main Scarborough location due to a tragic fire in 2022 and stopped providing TTC stations with their famous goods, but it just announced its return.

Why you should care: Fahmee's Bakery was one of the city's most popular Jamaican patty spots. In 2022, it stopped providing the patties to TTC stations, and customers were quite upset about it. But now the beloved bakery is making a comeback once again for commuters to enjoy.

What they're saying: "This year is the year we all are coming back. We went through COVID, inflation, now this recession. It's time for big moves to happen to get back what we lost in the past THREE YEARS. Our first big move this year is being the official patty at Bathurst Station, WHERE WE BELONG," Fahmee Bakery announced on its Instagram on Friday.

People in the comments section of the post are super excited about its opening and are hoping it pops up in more TTC stations.

"Bathurst station, where we first tried a Fahmee Patty; it was love at first bite!!" one person commented.

"You belong in my belly!" another shared.

ICYMI: In 2022, Fahmee's Bakery announced the closure of its location in Scarborough, which, as a result, meant no patties were provided to subway stations in the city. Today, the bakery has made a comeback and is bringing back the tastes and flavours the city loves so much to where it belongs: Bathurst station.

Fahmee Bakery has been serving Torontonians for over 40 years and the owner, Faiz Abdella, doesn't plan on putting an end to that.

Since its Scarborough closure in 2022, the bakery hasn't completely stopped producing patties. In fact, it sold its famous patties at York University, The Exchange at UofT, and its restaurant on Lansdowne Avenue.

What comes next: Customers can expect to grab a Jamaican patty from Bakery On The Go at Bathurst station and feed that craving that has not been satisfied in two years.

Keep reading: If you were looking to try other Jamaican patty spots in the city, there are quite a few that compete with the bakery. Here are three other spots that locals say are the best in Toronto.
