A new ranking of the best universities in the world has been released and a lot of Canadian schools made the cut.
But one university in Canada is the country's top post-secondary school and one of the best in the world — the University of Toronto.
QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a global higher education analyst, just put out the 2024 edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
It analyzed the academic excellence at more than 1,500 universities in 96 countries around the world across 55 programs.
QS announced the best universities in the world ranking on April 10, 2024, and shared that Canada is one of the countries with the most top 10 entries.
This year, 32 Canadian universities are included in the ranking with 17 top 10 entries.
Not only is U of T the top-ranking university in Canada for all four program areas that were analyzed but it's also in the top 10 worldwide for one of the subjects.
For arts and humanities subjects, the University of Toronto is tied for the 10th spot in this best universities ranking and is the best in Canada.
U of T ranked 13th in the world for life sciences and medicine which includes medicine, dentistry and veterinary science.
For engineering and technology programs, including engineering and computer science, the University of Toronto is 17th in the ranking.
When it comes to natural sciences subjects like chemistry, geography, mathematics and physics, U of T is the 19th best university in the world to study at.
The University of British Columbia and McGill University are Canada's second and third-best universities in this ranking respectively.
If you're wondering what the top post-secondary schools in the world are, Harvard ranks as the best university for arts and humanities, life sciences and medicine, and natural sciences.
Massachusetts Institute of Technology is the best university for engineering and technology programs, according to the QS ranking.
