A Walmart in New Westminster, B.C. was issued a closure order after an inspection by Fraser Health on June 25.

According to the inspection notice, there was a "severe pest infestation in the dry food section."

The inspector found that rodents had chewed on Cheetos, walnuts, rice, crackers, instant noodles, and more. There were also droppings found all around the food and on the shelves.

The store was ordered to clean all of the droppings up, discard all impacted food items and bring in pest control.

The Walmart was also told to block off the food area of the location and call for another inspection before re-opening that part of the store.

"Food safety is a top priority at Walmart Canada and we take this issue very seriously. We can confirm that the dry grocery department of the store is temporarily closed for a thorough cleaning and assessment. We continue to work closely with Fraser Health," Felicia Fefer, manager of corporate affairs for Walmart, told Narcity in an email.
