This small town tucked away on an island in B.C. has stretches of sandy shores, lush forest, local shops, and a picturesque waterfront to top it all off. It's known for its incredible beauty and is a summer oasis for many.

Recently it landed a spot among the top travel destinations in Canada, voted in by people around the country. CBC's The Current asked Canadians to submit their top travel spots, and narrowed them down to a list of 20 bucket list destinations across the country. The list will be further shorted to the top 10 places, so it's up in the air which will make the final cut.

Tofino was named in the top 20, though, and there's no doubt that it's worthy of a bucket list.

The little town is set on the west coast of Vancouver Island — a place to take in the rugged beauty and untamed wilderness of the area. Beaches dot the shoreline here, flanked by misty rainforest with ancient trees.

It's known as a surfing destination, and you can take your pick of beaches to sit out on and watch as people catch wave after wave. Or, maybe you want to brave the chilly water and rent a board at one of the local shops.

Some of the most picturesque beaches in the area are within the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, including Long Beach.

This beach is accurately named, as the longest one in the region. You can spend hours wandering the shore here, and then explore the rainforest in the park, with its many trails.

The town itself has lots to do, with tours, rentals, and shopping. While it's small there's also lots of options for food, with scenic patios overlooking the water, cozy cafes, and local breweries to try out.

While it requires a bit of a journey to reach Tofino (a ferry and road trip from Vancouver, or a four-hour drive from Victoria), it's a place unlike anywhere else in the world. If that's not worthy of a bucket list, we don't know what is.
