B.C. experienced winter weather over the weekend, with cold temperatures and significant snowfall affecting many areas across the province.

Forecasters warn that the snowfall is expected to continue, making travel throughout southwestern B.C. difficult. According to The Weather Network (TWN), this "multi-day snowfall event" along the coast has already brought over 20 cm of snow to some areas as of Sunday afternoon.

The workweek is off to a similarly snowy start, with lingering snowfall creating hazardous travel conditions.

"Sudden changes in road conditions and visibility are expected throughout the Lower Mainland and parts of Vancouver Island," TWN cautioned.

Thanks to "bands of heavy snow" moving across the South Coast, Metro Vancouver is expected to see even more snowfall. Some areas could accumulate up to 20 cm through Monday. While the Lower Mainland is expected to see a break in the snow by Monday afternoon, Vancouver Island will face wintry conditions into Monday night and early Tuesday.

Environment Canada has issued snowfall warnings for several regions. Greater Victoria is forecasted to receive between 10 and 20 cm, while the Fraser Valley could see up to 20 cm by Monday morning.

On the bright side, all this fresh snow is excellent news for B.C.’s ski resorts!
