Alberta’s Top Baby Names Of 2019 Were Just Released & They’re All Super Basic

Think you can guess what they are?
Staff Writer

Picking a name for your baby can be one of the most difficult decisions. Every year, there are popular names that everyone seems to love and these are compiled to make the Alberta baby names list. The top female and male names were surprisingly basic so if you're looking for your kid to stick out amongst the crowd, you may want to get a little creative.

The province released the top 20 baby names for 2019. Of these, 10 are girls' names and 10 are boys'.

In 2019, the Government of Alberta says that 51,598 babies were born with a majority being boys.

While this is a lot of babies, it's still not the highest amount the province has seen. The highest annual birth count for Alberta was actually in 2015 when 56,755 babies were born.

That's a lot of babies all at once.

Last year's top name for boys in 2019 was Noah. This is the second time in three years that this name got the top spot.

It also took the number one spot in 2017.

For the sixth year in a row, Olivia was the most popular name for baby girls.

But these weren’t the only top names. Coming in at the second and third spots for boys' names were Liam and Oliver.

Last year, the top names were Oliver and Noah.

For girls, the second and third most popular names were Charlotte and Sophia.

Last year, Emma was able to secure the number two spot while Charlotte came in third.

While these are the most popular names, they obviously weren’t the only names picked.

Amongst the other top boy baby names were Ethan, Jack, William, Lucas, Owen, Benjamin and Jacob.

For girl names, the others included Emma, Ava, Amelia, Emily, Abigail, Hannah and Elizabeth.

In 2019, there were 13,718 different names chosen, some of which referenced popular culture including Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings and various Marvel movies.

Some parents also chose to reference Greek and Roman mythology with names such as Zeus, Venus, Mars, and Artemis.

Others chose geographical locations like Arizona, Salem, and Memphis.

These aren’t even the weirdest names that parents have chosen in the past.

Whether you are having a baby or are just adopting a new fur child, these names may give you the inspiration you need. Or at least let you know which ones will all over school attendance lists in a few years.
