Canada's Prairie Provinces Could Be Facing Record-Breaking Snowfall This Weekend

Residents of Canada's western provinces may be in for a hefty winter storm, as Saskatchewan and Alberta's snow amounts could reach record-breaking numbers for the month.

The Weather Network reports that a low-pressure system moving north toward the prairies could arrive in the early hours of Saturday morning.

With it will come the risk of a major blizzard that would include freezing cold conditions and powerful wind gusts.

Over 60 centimetres Snowfall possible by Monday morning

The weather system is predicted to drop anywhere from 30 to possibly more than 60 centimetres of snow in the southern areas of Alberta and Saskatchewan.

These have the potential to shatter the previously held November records, which include 78.7 centimetres in Pincher Creek all the way back in 1905.

Along with the predicted massive snowfall, residents may also be in for wind gusts that could reach up to 90 kilometres an hour.

Parts of Alberta have already dealt with some pretty intense snowy weather, even before getting into November.

With winter on its way, more parts of Canada can expect to see their first snowfall of the year.
