If you've been eyeing up a new iPhone, iPad, MacBook, or even some new AirPods or an Apple Watch, now could be a good time to buy.

Apple's 2023 Black Friday event is officially underway in Canada, and while you won't find jaw-dropping discounts on the tech retailer's most popular products, there are still savvy ways to secure a sweet deal during the multi-day shopping event.

Just like last year, Apple Canada is steering away from conventional sales and discounts and opting for a gift card bonanza in exchange for your Black Friday splurge.

It's a strategy that particularly favours shoppers eyeing multiple Apple products, but there are still ways to get money off your one-off Apple purchases this Black Friday too.

Here's a closer look at Apple's 2023 Black Friday sale in Canada, and how you can shop to make the most of this year's gift card deal.

Apple Canada Black Friday deals 2023

Just like last year, Apple has chosen to run a four-day Black Friday "event" rather than a conventional sale, enticing customers with the promise of gift cards up to $280 in exchange for qualifying purchases.

The way it works is simple – you buy a qualifying Apple product during the four-day Black Friday event and you'll get a store credit in the form of a gift card to spend at a later date.

Starting on November 24, shoppers will receive gift cards for purchases like iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, AirPods, Apple Watches and even qualifying accessories.

While the products themselves – in typical Apple style – won't be discounted, shoppers can accumulate rewards for their spending, which can later be applied to slash costs on their next purchases.

This year's gift cards vary in value from $35 all the way up to $280, with the credit value typically increasing in tandem with the product's purchase price.

For example, if you're prepared to drop $1,749 on a new MacBook Air 15" with an M2 chip, you can expect to get $280 back in credit – the maximum reward for a single purchase this year.

Comparatively, opting for a MacBook Air 13" with an M2 chip will get you $245 in credit, while the MacBook Air 13" with an M1 chip results in $210 in credit.

Other purchases that'll qualify for a gift card include iPad Pros (worth up to $140 in credit), iPad Airs (worth up to $105 in credit) and Apple Watches (worth up to $70 in credit).

For qualifying iPhone purchases, the gift card values are slightly lower. Spending $999 on an iPhone 14 can get you up to $105 in store credit or $70 back for an $849 iPhone 13 purchase.

Those shopping for items like AirPods, HomePods and even Beats can expect to receive gift cards of varying value in return for their purchases, with most between $35 and $70 in value.

Accessories like Magic Keyboards, Magic Keyboard Folios and even Apple Pencils can also get you between $35 and $70 back in store credit.

Of course, this type of Black Friday event only really benefits those who were already planning to buy multiple products from the retailer.

For instance, if your shopping list includes a new MacBook Air 15" with an M2 chip and AirPods, you can snatch the $280 gift card with the MacBook purchase, subsequently applying it to significantly reduce the AirPods' price at a later date.

However, if your Black Friday wish list only includes a single item, the savings are not so exciting. In fact, there's even the risk of spending more if you end up lured into buying something you didn't initially want or need, as in most cases, the Apple gift card won't fully cover the cost of the new purchase.

Apple iPhone 15 Pro Black Friday deals

Among the products on many tech-lovers' wish lists this Black Friday is the Apple iPhone 15, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max and Plus variants.

Those looking for Apple iPhone 15 Black Friday deals are out of luck when shopping directly with the retailer, as none of the iPhone 15 models have been discounted for Black Friday and they don't appear to be eligible as part of the gift card deal either.

If you're hoping to shave a bit off the cost of an iPhone 15, there's a potential workaround through Apple Trade-In.

By trading in your old iPhone (assuming you have one), you can secure a discount on your new phone. It's worth noting that your old device needs to be relatively new and in very good condition to see substantial discounts through this avenue.

Of course, you can keep an eye on other retailers' Black Friday sales too, in case there are better Apple product discounts elsewhere.

However, brand-new products like the new Apple iPhone 15 models are unlikely to be heavily discounted anywhere – so you might just have to fork out full price if this is what's at the top of your wish list.

Apple Black Friday deals

Although shoppers might struggle to find heavy reductions on new iPhone releases, it is still possible to find impressive Black Friday discounts on Apple products elsewhere.

For example, Costco's Black Friday sale is offering a whopping $250 discount on a MacBook Air 15" with an M2 chip, which is $1,489.99 right now.

The wholesale retailer is also offering discounts of between $30 and $50 on Apple products like iPad 10s, 3rd Generation AirPods and Apple Watch Series 9 GPS.

There are also Black Friday deals on Apple products over at Best Buy, where you can save $70 on iPad 10s, or save $200 on MacBook Air 13" models.

So, depending on what's on your shopping list, you could be better off hunting for Apple deals outside of the tech retailer's own store.
