Pack your bags! A new airline has just landed in Canada, and you can get cheap flights to so many destinations in the south.

Arajet, a new low-cost airline operating flights in the Caribbean, officially launched in Canada this week with new flights from Toronto's Pearson Airport.

On Tuesday, the airline began offering direct flights between Toronto and Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. The airline is the first to fly directly from Toronto to Las Americas Airport in Santo Domingo.

The airline will fly out of Toronto four days a week, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

The capital of the Dominican Republic, Santo Domingo is the cultural centre of the country and is regarded as a hidden gem destination in the Caribbean.

The city is home to colonial landmarks and stunning architecture, as well as beautiful nature and incredible opportunities for adventure.

Toronto travellers can enjoy lush white-sand beaches located just 20 minutes from the airport in Santo Domingo, such as Boca Chica or Juan Dolio.

If you're thinking about trading Canada's snow and ice for tropical sand and waves this winter, flights from Toronto to Santo Domingo start at $177 one-way.

The airline says it also offers travel from Santo Domingo to resorts and beaches in Punta Cana, which is under 2 hours away, at no extra cost.

While the airline is currently only operating flights from Toronto, it will be adding Montreal to its Canadian destinations as of November 7, 2023.

The launch of the new airline allows Canadians to fly to 14 countries in the Americas, including Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Curacao, Aruba, and Colombia, at a lower cost.

For example, Canadians can fly from Toronto to Cancun, Mexico, this winter for prices starting at $226 one-way, or to Kingston, Jamaica, for prices starting at $253, one-way. With 18 destinations for Canadians, it may be time to start adding to your travel bucket list.

Arajet is the second low-cost airline to launch in Canada in 2023. In June, Icelandic carrier Play Airlines launched its first flights from Canada in Toronto, offering cheap airfare to Iceland and to more than 30 other destinations in Europe.
