As of today, Friday, December 19, the B.C. Recovery Benefit is open for applications.

Kicking off at 8:30 a.m. local time, residents can apply for a one-time, tax-free payment of up to $500 for individuals or $1,000 for families and single parents.

If you receive a payment and we later determine that you’re not eligible for it, you will be required to repay it. Government of B.C.

The funds will be directly deposited into your bank account if you are approved. Your eligibility and amount are based on the net income shown on your 2019 tax return.

For individuals, $500 can be disbursed to people with a net income of $62,500 or less. A reduced amount can be given if you make up to $87,500.

As for families, the $1,000 amount can be given to families and single parents with a net income of $125,000. A smaller amount may be granted to those with net incomes of up to $175,000.

You need to live in British Columbia, be at least 19 years old, have filed your taxes last year, and have a valid SIN or individual or temporary tax number.

To apply you’ll need to provide your net income from 2019, your SIN, your driver’s license (if you have one), and your direct deposit info.

All you need to do is visit the application portal and fill out your info.
