This small town in Alberta is the perfect escape as summer comes to an end. Surrounded by colourful forest with trails winding through it and picturesque mountain peaks wrapped around, there's beauty around every turn here. Paired with the storybook-like streets lined with little shops and quaint stores, this place is the epitome of a cozy getaway.

While Banff is a classic small-town getaway from Calgary, sometimes the tourist hotspot gets a bit old. We turned to the Narcity audience to see where people should go instead, if they want ot mix it up, and Canmore was dubbed a must-visit.

Just over an hour away from Calgary, Canmore is a more low-key town with just as much natural beauty and adventure at its doorstep.

The bustling town has lots of shops and local spots to explore, making a stroll down Main Street an afternoon activity all on its own. There you'll find Cafe Books, known as one of "Canada's dreamiest bookstores," and an eclectic shop that's just a taste of the unique charm of this town.

Surrounding the cozy streets of Canmore is the Kananaskis region — an area known for its beauty and untouched wilderness.

The fall is an especially pretty time to visit, when the larch trees transform the forests into a golden landscape. It's the ideal time to go for a hike and look out at the beautiful mountain scenery.

Mount Lorette Ponds is a popular hike nearby that's only 1 kilometre long and takes you along a paved loop with views of golden larch trees in the fall.

If you want to keep exploring, head to Grassi Lakes, another go-to hike near Canmore that leads you to a stunning turquoise lake.

After getting outside, you can cozy up in town, enjoying the local restaurants or grabbing a drink at a brewery.

If you want a getaway that feels like stepping into a postcard — this is the spot.
