With that colder Alberta weather coming, you might be thinking about taking up a fun activity to pass the winter months. Whether you want to try snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing or ice skating, you'll need the gear, and Western Canada's first Decathlon store is the ideal place to find what you need.

The world-renowned sports brand, known for its high-quality gear and equipment and reasonable prices, just opened its first giant, one-of-a-kind concept store in Calgary.

The 63,000-square-foot location opened its doors in Southcentre Mall this weekend and features experiential showrooms for over 65 sports as well as test zones where you can try out your products before you buy them.

The store also offers equipment service workshops, an in-store coffee shop, a co-working space and automated robots in the warehouse that will quickly fill orders for in-store purchases and deliveries for Western Canada. The new store also has a gymnasium space with sports classes and activities like yoga, spinning and basketball that are hosted by local coaches.

Calgarians can check out the store's innovative showroom-based layout, which was designed entirely with the shopping experience in mind — think IKEA, but for sports. Whether you're into hiking, skiing, snowboarding, fishing, horseback riding or just about anything else, Decathlon can help satisfy your appetite for sports this winter.

As one of the largest sporting goods retailers in the world (with over 1,500 stores in more than 50 countries), Decathlon knows sports. Since 1976, the company has been designing, manufacturing, testing and selling its own apparel and equipment with a mission to make sports accessible for all.

If you have a question about what equipment to buy or you want advice for trying out a new sport, just ask a member of the Decathlon team. The in-store sports advisors are known for their sports know-how and friendly service, so they can help you prepare to hit the slopes with confidence (or wherever else your chosen sport takes you).
