Canada's Salmonella Outbreak Linked To Onions Appears To Be Over
The salmonella outbreak that prompted a Canada onion recall appears to be over, according to government officials.
The Public Health Agency said in an October 1 statement that their investigation into the matter, which was carried out with the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, has officially been closed.
They also note that reports of new illnesses have "significantly decreased over the last three weeks."

There were a total of 515 cases of salmonella linked to the outbreak, including one death, with people ranging in age from three to 100-years-old reporting the illness.
The majority of these were in British Columbia, but there were others in Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, and Prince Edward Island.
Initially, the source was identified as red onions imported to Canada from Thomson International Inc. in Bakersfield, California.
However, Canadians were advised not to purchase or consume any onions from across the border, including products that may have been made with them.
The country is now dealing with a new salmonella outbreak among specific brands of pig ear dog treats.
