Fall is in full swing in Alberta and you can't miss a minute. If you're the type of person who likes their hikes with a side of fall foliage, we've got just the trail for you. Hiking to Chester Lake is a breathtaking experience for anyone looking to make the best of autumn in Alberta.

The hike is located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. The trailhead is a two-hour drive from Calgary, so you can easily plan a day trip around it.

It's also super close to tons of other natural destinations, so you'll never run out of things to see on this little escape.

You need to drive to the Chester Lake Day-Use Area in Kananaskis Country to access the trailhead. Near the north part of the parking lot, you'll see a wide, well-maintained path that will eventually bring you to the alpine lake.

It's a forested trail for the most part, so if you're into the woods, get ready to fall in love. Honestly, the trail is so enchanting and peaceful that you'll want to keep exploring all day long.

After around 2.8 kilometres, you'll reach a clearing.

This is where you'll be able to get a glimpse of the most gorgeous fall scenery Alberta has to offer.

The larches are positively glowing at the moment, having turned the place into a golden, autumnal paradise. All you need is a steaming PSL and you're set for a quintessential fall experience.

But the hike isn't over. You can continue trekking through the meadow until you reach the lake. The lake itself isn't too big but the snow-capped mountains surrounding it are a magnificent sight to behold.

If you're lucky, the lake might be turquoise or crystal-clear on the day of the journey. Whatever it may be, you'll be in awe.

Altogether, the hike is about 4.8 kilometres one-way and you'll be completing an elevation of about 300 meters throughout. The trail is rated as moderate.

Whether you're gearing up for a memorable date by the mountains or you want to cross something off your fall bucket list, we're betting this hike's got something in it for you.
