In one neighbourhood of Peel Region, COVID-19 positivity rates are apparently through the roof.

According to IC/ES, a not-for-profit research institute tracking COVID-19 data, a single area in Peel may have a positivity rate almost two times that of the United States' average.

IC/ES organizes all its neighbourhoods by the corresponding first three characters of their postal code and names them as such.

The region in question is L6P, which is north of Queen Street East and east of Airport Road.

According to John Hopkins' coronavirus research centre, the United States average positivity rate is currently 10.0%.

The M6L region of Toronto has a positivity rate of 18.7%, which is the second-highest.

The top 30 neighbourhoods with the highest positivity rates all fall within the GTA region — most in Toronto and Peel.

This comes as Toronto's mayor calls for even tighter restrictions than are already in place.

The city of Toronto has recorded 35,130 cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.
