Justin Trudeau is getting serious! The prime minister says that Canada’s travel rules are “very clear” and no Canadians should be vacationing abroad right now.

Speaking during a press conference on Tuesday, January 5, the PM addressed the country’s new rules for foreign travel.

This included the updated rules for incoming travellers, which require everybody entering by plane to get a negative COVID-19 test before boarding.

“We’ve been very clear — no one should be vacationing abroad right now,” said the PM on Wednesday.

However, as there is no outright travel ban, he added, “If you still decide to travel at your own risk, you will need to show a negative COVID-19 test on your return.”

Trudeau also reminded travelling Canadians that they would have to isolate for two weeks when they get back to the country, too.

“You need to take this seriously,” he added. “Not following the rules could mean real consequences, including fines and prison time.”

Trudeau's comments come as multiple Canadian politicians have been caught travelling abroad during the pandemic, many for non-essential purposes.
