When it comes to fast food, there are plenty of delicious and cheap options already in Canada and it looks like 2024 is going to get even more tasty with some of the major chains in the U.S. expanding to north of the border or offering more locations across the country.

On January 17, two major chains both announced their plans for new locations in Canada and we're already salivating.

Jimmy John's, a sandwich chain in the U.S. which offers customizable submarine sandwiches, will be opening a location in the GTA in 2024, according to The Canadian Press.

"We won't publicly announce the number, but...we're approaching 3,000 in the U.S. and we have amazing runway to grow, so you could easily do that and more in Canada over a long period of time," said Michael Haley, president and managing director of international for Jimmy John's parent company Inspire Brands.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, which is known for its fresh sliced and fresh grilled subs, will open 300 locations across Canada by 2034, according to an email to Narcity.

They already have two locations in Kitchener and London, and in 2024, they will open new five locations in Ontario.

In 2023, Shake Shack announced its plans to expand into Canada in 2024 with a flagship location set to open in Toronto sometime this year and 35 locations expected to be open by 2035.

As well as classic items like the ShackBurger, the chain will also be whipping up some special menu items for Canadians.

"We have been eyeing this incredible opportunity in Canada for quite some time and are elated to have found exceptional partners to serve Shack classics and bespoke Canada-exclusive items to our sophisticated neighbours to the north," said Michael Kark, Chief Global Licensing Officer of Shake Shack.

And Albertans will get to try out Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers as five locations are set to open in the province, although they haven't specified when exactly that will be happening.

"Bringing Freddy's to Canada means serving delicious food and creating a memorable experience for families, friends, and lovers of great taste," said Dan Arndt, franchise owner of ZZA Hospitality. "Freddy's dedication to serving high-quality, cooked-to-order menu items and providing genuine hospitality will resonate with Canadian guests."

Fingers crossed that it's also for this year because that'll be quite a few new chains and treats to try!
