A consumer product recall published by the government is warning Canadians about dangers associated with a massage gun that was sold in the country.

On Thursday, January 4, Health Canada advised that people should immediately stop using HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers or charging the recalled massagers due to the fact that they can overheat, which can pose fire and burn hazards.

"As of December 21, 2023, HoMedics has received 4 reports of overheating while charging, in Canada, and no reports of injuries," says the recall. "In the United States, Homedics has received 13 reports of overheating while charging and 1 report of a burn to a consumer’s thumb.'

The affected product was sold between September 2020 to December 2023 and approximately 41,000 were bought in Canada, with that number rising to 46,000 in the United States.

"Consumers should immediately stop using and charging the recalled massagers and contact Homedics for instructions to receive a full refund or a refund in the form of a credit towards any Homedics product including a 20% bonus," advises the recall.

More information such as how to contact the company as well as how to identify if you have the product can be found here.
