Consumer Product Recalls In Canada: Items From IKEA, Giant Tiger, Walmart & More Affected

Health Canada has recently published consumer product recalls for various items sold in the country, some of which come from stores like Walmart, IKEA, Giant Tiger and more.
Consumers are advised to immediately stop using any of the products listed below which range from children's sleepers to helmets, blinds, massagers and other items.
Here are the consumer product recalls issued so far in 2024 to take note of.
Collegiate English Horse-Riding Saddles
A recalled Collegiate English Horse-Riding Saddle.
On January 15, a consumer product recall was issued for Collegiate English Horse-Riding Saddles because the rivet or stirrup bar can break, causing the rider to fall, posing an injury hazard.
"This recall involves nine models of Collegiate English horse-riding saddles: Degree Mono Event, Graduate Close Contact, Honour Close Contact, Integrity Mono Dressage, Lectern Dressage and Warwick Close Contact," says the recall. "All of the saddles are branded Collegiate and have a Collegiate nail head in the head of the saddle and Collegiate brand printed on the stirrup keeper."
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled saddles and contact WeatherBeeta for instructions to return the recalled saddle to receive a free replacement saddle, including free shipping, similar to theirs," says the recall.

George Brand Sleepers
A recalled George sleeper sold at Walmart.
On January 12, a consumer product recall was issued for footed George Brand Sleepers in four styles for boys and girls sold at Walmart.
"The foot grips of the George Brand Sleepers, may fall off or be removed through repeated washing, posing choking and ingestion hazards," notes the recall.
From December 2021 to January 2024, 371,469 of the affected items were sold in Canada.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled sleepers and check the style number printed on the collar to determine if they are impacted by this recall," says the recall. "Consumers can refer to the provided illustration for the impacted patterns. Affected sleepers can be returned to Wal-Mart stores for a full refund."

Retrospec Scout Bicycle Helmet
Recalled Retrospec Scout Bicycle Helmet.
On January 11, a consumer product recall was issued for Retrospec Scout Bicycle Helmet sold in sizes XS and S from February 2019 to March 2023.
"The helmet may not protect the child during a fall or crash, posing a risk of a head injury," says the recall. "Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled helmet and contact Retrospec for a full refund."

Various Blinds from Versailles Home Fashion
Recalled blinds sold through Giant Tiger's website.
On January 10, a consumer product recall was issued for Various Blinds from Versailles Home Fashion sold through Giant Tiger's website between February 01, 2023 to December 08, 2023.
"Health Canada has determined that the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations and pose a strangulation hazard," says the recall. "Young children may pull looped cords around their neck, or become entangled in the cords, causing a strangulation hazard and even death. In addition, the products can also release small parts that present a choking hazard to young children."
If you have the affected product, you're advised to stop using it immediately and return it to the point of purchase for a refund.

ÅSKSTORM 40W USB charger dark grey NA

On January 10, a consumer product recall was issued for ÅSKSTORM 40W USB charger dark grey NA sold at IKEA due to possible thermal burn and shock hazards to consumers from wear and tear of the power cable.
"This recall involves the IKEA ÅSKSTORM 40W USB charger dark grey NA sold under article number 80461200 and with model number ICPSW5-40-1," says the recall. "The model number can be found on the label on the back of the charger. All date stamps are included in the recall."
The affected product was sold from April 2020 to December 2023 and 10,258 units were sold in Canada.
"Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled product and return it to IKEA for a refund," advises Health Canada. "Proof of purchase is not required."

HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers
The recalled HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers.
On January 4, a consumer product recall was issued for HoMedics Therapist Select Percussion Personal Massagers because the massagers can overheat while charging, posing fire and burn hazards.
"This recall involves the HoMedics Therapist Select Massagers with model number HHP-715 or HHP-715-CA. The product has a 120 VAC, 60 HZ power cord," says the recall. "The products are black with a handle, housing and massage head attached to the end. The product has four interchangeable massage heads. Only manufacturing dates through the end of 2022 and prior are included in the recall."
From September 2020 to December 2023, approximately 41,000 units of the affected massagers were sold in Canada.
"Consumers should immediately stop using and charging the recalled massagers and contact Homedics for instructions to receive a full refund or a refund in the form of a credit towards any Homedics product including a 20% bonus," says the recall.

Olmitos Basic Zoo Walker

On January 3, a consumer product recall was issued for Olmitos Basic Zoo Walker because they are banned in Canada and may pose an injury hazard.
"Children in baby walkers are exposed to hazards that would not normally be accessible if the child were not supported by the walker, posing a variety of risks of injury to the child," says the recall. "Children in baby walkers can also fall down the stairs, which could result in injury or death.
