Strangulation Hazard: Blinds Sold In Canada Are Being Recalled & Here's What You Need To Know

Health Canada has published several consumer product recalls this week regarding blinds sold in the country.
"Health Canada has determined that the recalled blinds do not meet the Corded Window Coverings Regulations and pose a strangulation hazard," the government says of the four recalls. "Young children may pull looped cords around their neck, or become entangled in the cords, causing a strangulation hazard and even death."
"Children can become entangled in blinds cords, which can quickly lead to strangulation and even death. Health Canada recommends cordless window coverings."

On January 23, a consumer product recall was issued for various blinds by Persienne Design due to a strangulation hazard. Customers are advised to immediately stop using the affected item and make an appointment with Persienne Design for repairs.
"This recall involves all Persienne Design 2'' wood blinds, 2'' PVC blinds and honeycomb blinds for residential use during the period from September 2023 to December 2023," says the government. "All products are available in a wide range of custom colours and sizes."

On January 22, a consumer product recall was updated for Zebra blinds and roller blinds equipped with a chain and cord shield from Les stores Ameuriq due to strangulation hazards and customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Les stores Ameuriq or your retailer for a repair kit.
"This recall involves zebra blinds and roller blinds intended for residential use equipped with a chain and a cord shield," says the recall.

On January 22, a consumer product recall was issued for Various Dastex brand blinds and shades due to strangulation and choking hazards and customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and contact Dastex Inc. for a repair.
"This recall involves all Dastex brand shades and roller blinds with or without a headpiece equipped with a chain and cord shield system, with a metal base at the bottom, produced between October to December 2023," says the government. "All products are available in a wide range of custom colours and sizes."

On January 22, a consumer product recall was issued for Various window coverings from Carsan EVP due to a strangulation hazard and customers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled products and return them to the point of purchase to receive a new clip.
"This recall involves all window coverings from the Toile collection, Vision collection, Vienna collection as well as the Romain blinds made with the “P-clip," says Health Canada.
