Health Canada has issued a consumer product recall regarding a replacement part for certain Dyson vacuums that may pose a fire and burn hazard.

On Thursday, January 25, the government agency advised people who have the product to immediately stop using it and dispose of it correctly according to municipal instructions.

The affected products sold on Amazon are:

  • FirstPower 4000mAh V6 Battery Replacement for Dyson V6 Series Vacuums

Why you should care: While the battery manufacturer claims that the replacement part is compatible with Dyson V6 series vacuums, they are not a Dyson or Dyson-authorized product.

What they’re saying: "Dyson advises against the use of third-party replacement batteries in its products due to potential safety concerns," says the recall.

ICYMI: The affected item has been removed from Amazon Canada and the government says they've contacted the foreign third-party seller.

"As of November 24, 2023, the company has received 6 reports of incidents including 1 report of significant property damage due to fire in Canada," Health Canada noted.

Between January 2022 to April 2022, 1,731 units of the battery replacement were sold in Canada.

What comes next: "Health Canada is committed to helping protect consumers from potentially dangerous consumer products," the government said. "The Department regularly tests consumer products available for sale in stores or online and continues to monitor products to help keep consumers safe."
