This hidden gem beach in Ontario has 'Caribbean-blue' water and powdery white sand shores

It's a little slice of paradise.

Lead Writer, Travel

Powdery sand shores, bright blue water and majestic views might sound like something you'd find in the Caribbean, but you can enjoy all this and more right here in Ontario. This Ontario beach is a hidden gem that will have you feeling like you're on a tropical vacation.

Situated along the northeastern shores of Lake Superior, this summer destination is a mini paradise where you can soak up some sun and swim the day away.

The beach at Pancake Bay Provincial Park is a majestic spot to discover.

Boasting 3.2 kilometres of fine sand shores and "Caribbean-blue" water, it's like a little taste of the tropics without leaving the province.

Nestled in a sheltered bay, the beach offers a secluded and dreamy swimming experience, particularly during the sun-filled months of July and August. Despite Lake Superior's chilly temperatures, the shallows at Pancake Bay are warm, making it a great spot for a swim.

According to the Ontario Parks website, it's the longest beach on Lake Superior and is one of the "finest" in North America.

In addition to swimming, Pancake Bay's calm waters make it an ideal spot for water activities like kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding.

The provincial park is also home to some stunning trails to explore during your visit. The 14 km Lookout Trail takes you to panoramic views of Lake Superior and its lush forests. Along the way, you'll discover the Edmund Fitzgerald Lookout, which offers a vantage point over the place where the notorious ship sank in 1975.

Another trail to explore is the Pancake Bay Nature Trail, which weaves through ancient beach ridges, wetlands, and leafy forests.

If you'd like to extend your stay, you can book one of the park's campsites and enjoy some time beneath the stars. You may even be able to glimpse the Northern Lights.

With a heavenly stretch of golden sand, crystal waters and scenic trails, this Ontario provincial park is a hidden summer gem.
