This Ontario destination with lighthouses and cozy beach towns is a magical winter escape

It's a snowy paradise.

Lead Writer, Travel

Beach towns, lighthouses, and turquoise shorelines might make you think of summer getaways, but this Ontario destination is just as magical in the winter.

Bruce County is a scenic region of Southwestern Ontario that transforms into a snowy paradise as temperatures drop. With its coastal charm, waterfront villages and natural wonders, there's so much to explore here.

According to Explore the Bruce, this region is "the best winter destination for outdoor enthusiasts" and features cross-country skiing trails, skating rinks, gorgeous hikes and more.

Some highlights include the glimmering skating trail at MacGregor Point Provincial Park and skiing through the forests overlooking Colpoy's Bay on Georgian Bay. You can also hike past frosty turquoise waters along the Escarpment.

There are many quaint villages and charming beach towns dotted throughout the area. You can enjoy local shops, cozy cafes, and unique attractions in these spots.

Goderich is known as "Canada's prettiest town" and is a dreamy winter getaway with cute eateries and boutiques.
You can also explore places like Southampton, Kincardine and Port Elgin for more small-town adventures.

While the Bruce Peninsula National Park and Fathom Five National Marine Park are popular summer destinations, they also offer "the 'quintessential Canadian winter' experience" with camping and stunning snow-filled trails.

If you're on the hunt for a picturesque winter adventure, Bruce County is worth the road trip.
