The RCMP Are Changing Up Their Application Requirements Because Of COVID-19

It's still a long process!
Contributor

Anyone who is thinking about entering the field of law enforcement should know that the RCMP hiring process has undergone a couple of changes due to the ongoing pandemic.

Previously, anyone who was interested in a position was required to take vision and hearing exams before submitting their online application.

Now, the RCMP is letting people know that they can complete these requirements at a later date after applying.

This decision was made due to the fact that physical distancing rules are still in place across the country, and they could make it more difficult to have these tests done.

Even without the vision and hearing exams, the hiring process is still fairly rigorous, and applicants will have to go through several steps.

These include a physical and psychological assessment performed by RCMP-designated doctors, as well as submitting to a polygraph examination and a field investigation.

Applicants will also have to maintain their physical fitness level in order to be ready for the intense training they'll go through in the Cadet Program.

Luckily, new recruits get a weekly allowance of $525, and getting hired as an officer means starting with a salary of over $53,000 a year.
