Despite being closed to shoppers for more than three years, Sears Canada refunds could be in the cards for eligible past customers.

In a new notice, the company's court-appointed monitor revealed that former customers could qualify for some money back if they incurred costs from products purchased before June 22, 2017.

$9 million To be given back to customers

More specifically, this refers to “the repair or service of [an] appliance or other Sears Canada product that would have otherwise been covered by the warranty (a Warranty Claim).”

The fix must have been something that would have been covered by the item’s warranty and must have been incurred by the buyer themselves, instead.

To qualify, the customer can’t have been previously reimbursed for the cost of the repair.

If you meet the above eligibility criteria, “you may be entitled to compensation for all or a portion of those costs,” explains the notice.

To cover the costs of these refunds, Sears Canada has put aside $9 million in a “Warranty Reimbursement Pool” for the customer claims that are processed.

To be eligible for money back, Sears shoppers must submit their claim online before 5 p.m. EST on June 12, 2021.

Sears Canada is one of many Canadian stores to have shut their doors over the last several years.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, this list has become longer, with thousands of Canadian companies shutting down or filing for bankruptcy.
