If you dream of visiting the rolling green hills of Ireland, you don't need to leave Canada to find a similar experience.

In fact, an island in the country is known as Canada's very own "Emerald Isle," with more of an Irish feel than Ireland itself.

With cliffs, green hills and a culture that will transport you to the land of saints and scholars, this Canadian island should definitely be on your travel bucket list.

On the east end of the country on the Atlantic Ocean, you'll find Fogo Island, the largest island on the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Barely 25 kilometres long and 14 kilometres wide, the tiny island is home to just 11 communities, including the community of Tilting.

Tilting is a living artifact where the old ways are still very much the norm. According to Parks Canada, Irish settlers began to shape Tilting's landscape from about the 1730s, building houses and fishing rooms around the harbour to support the inshore fishery.

Now a national historic site, the community is so like Ireland that it was called "Canada's little-known Emerald Isle," by BBC.

Here, not only will you find a traditional fishing village with physical characteristics of Ireland — complete with shamrocks on the buildings and town signs — but also a rich Irish culture, including townsfolk who speak with an accent that could easily be mistaken for Irish.

In the village, you can visit attractions like the Lane House Museum, the oldest built structure in Tilting dating back to the 1830s that now operates as a museum in the summer.

You can also check out Tilting's original post office, established in 1887, and the Dwyer Premises, which consists of a house, store, flakes and a stage built in the 1800s filled with replica furniture that serves as a fine example of preservation of the village's architectural heritage.

Near Tilting, you'll also find the gorgeous Sandy Cove Beach, a white-sand beach with clear blue waters that look almost tropical where you can explore tide pools, collect sea glass, and see seastars and jellyfish.

On Fogo Island, you'll find tons of other opportunities for adventure, including a number of breathtaking hikes, iceberg viewing, wildlife spotting, whale watching and incredible stargazing.

The Fogo Island Inn, which is just 10 minutes away from Tilting, is a great spot to base your trip, and also offers inclusive experiences with your stay.

Happy travels!
