The Last J.Crew Location In Canada Has Reportedly Closed Down Forever

They had a 10-year run.

It looks like the last J.Crew store location in Canada was officially shut down for good.

That's right — the U.S. fashion retailer has permanently shut down its remaining stores up north, according to Retail Insider.

2011 J.Crew entered the Canadian market

The last store, located in Toronto's Yorkdale Shopping Centre, which was still running in September of last year, has reportedly closed its doors for good.

This location was apparently also their first store to open back in 2011, when J.Crew entered the Canadian market for the first time.

The chain was still reportedly operating stores in the form of outlets in Vancouver and Ontario, but they all appear to also have shut down now.

According to the report, the retailer took some time in permanently closing all of its locations, with the most recent closures, until now, being in September of 2020.

At that time, they closed down two street-front stores in Toronto and Vancouver.

After their entry to the country a decade ago, J.Crew expanded its retail presence across the country, including in cities like Edmonton, Calgary, Vancouver, Toronto, and Ottawa.

The company reportedly hadn't been doing well down south either, as they filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the U.S. in May of 2020, according to Retail Insider.

However, they "exited bankruptcy in September," which "allowed J. Crew to gain a better financial foothold by turning USD $1.6 billion into equity by putting lenders in charge of the company," the report read.
