There's been yet another daylight downtown Toronto shooting. Police say a young woman was shot in the core of the city at around 2 p.m. on August 5. The victim is reportedly in hospital with serious injuries.

Police tweeted at 2:17 p.m. to confirm that numerous callers reported hearing gunshots in the area of Queen Street West and Augusta Avenue, near Spadina Avenue.

According to CP24, the victim is a 26-year-old woman.

Police subsequently tweeted that the shooter is a man in his early 20s with a medium build. He was wearing a surgical mask and a black hoodie.

Paramedics were able to transport the woman to the hospital, where she is reportedly suffering from serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

At this point, the investigation is ongoing.

Police ask anyone who may have information or dashcam footage of the incident to contact investigators.

This, sadly, is just the latest shooting in and around the city in recent times. This long weekend just gone, for example, saw at least 12 incidents of gun violence, according to the Toronto Star.

Just last week, a 32-year-old man was shot to death in his Jeep in Markham.

Also in recent days, Durham Police released horrifying video of a driveway shooting in Pickering that happened on July 27.

A little further back, on July 20, a man survived after being shot "more than five times" while driving on Hwy. 401 in Meadowvale in Mississauga.
