A Breathtaking Double Rainbow Was Spotted Over Toronto Yesterday (PHOTOS)

Torontonians were in for a breathtaking surprise on Wednesday. A rare sighting of a double rainbow in Toronto lit up the skies. If you missed out on seeing it in person, multiple photos have since been shared on social media of the amazing phenomenon.  

On Wednesday, two colourful arches were spotted stretching across the sky throughout the 6ix. 

Torontonians seemed overjoyed at the sight of the double rainbow, with many taking to Instagram to share their amazement over the weather event.

"Saw the most gorgeous double rainbow while out on the balcony today! So vivid!" wrote one resident who filmed the stunning view from her balcony.

"Just got caught in the rain, and this is the most beautiful thing I've ever seen in Toronto. WOW," added another.

The wonder of this magical sight of nature is actually the result of two optical effects occurring at the same time and is not something that you see every day. 

"During a particularly lucky scenario, two rainbows will form at the same time. The first and brighter rainbow is called the primary rainbow," The Weather Channel explained.

"The second and fainter rainbow is called the secondary rainbow," the description adds.

In a stroke of luck, this week's double rainbow is actually going to lead us into some beautiful weather.

The first week of July will see a burst of heat and humidity, providing perfect beach day vibes across the GTA.

It is going to be so hot on Canada Day that temperatures in Southern Ontario are expected peak at a humidex of 40 C.

This isn't the first rare rainbow that has been spotted in Ontario skies this year. 

Back in April, the double arches were spotted in Bloomingdale where one resident referred to it as a "full rainbow of hope."
