Jahmil French’s Toronto High School & Alum Share Emotional Posts In His Memory

The 'Degrassi' actor has passed away at just 28 years old.

Canadian actor Jahmil French, best known for his role as Dave Turner on Degrassi, has passed away at the age of 28. 

Emotional tributes are pouring in from his former castmates, fellow high school alumni, and others who knew and loved him.

Degrassi co-creator and executive producer Linda Schuyler said that she is "heartbroken to hear about the loss of Jahmil."

"Jahmil was an extraordinary talent and a bright light on and off the screen. He was a joy to work with on Degrassi: The Next Generation," wrote Schuyler in a post on the show's Instagram page.

French's castmate Stefan Brogen wrote that he's "sick with the news of Jahmil's passing."

"He performed Dave with such sensitivity and thoughtfulness and could make me laugh so easily. It was a pleasure to work with him and he will be missed. This is a real loss," continued Brogan.

Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts, the Scarborough high school that French attended, also posted a heartfelt tribute to the actor.

"Our hearts are heavy at WPA and Wexford Collegiate School for the Arts as we mourn the loss of a beautiful soul and bright light. Jahmil French, Rest In Peace," wrote the institute.

Wexford alumni and Umbrella Academy actor Dewshane Williams made a detailed post about French's early years as a young performer with many gifts.

"An elite poet, rapper, writer (whether He agreed or not), and Speaker. He was highly spiritual, and very, very intelligent," wrote Williams.

"He was one of the best Actors in His generation, a Toronto Legend, and Hero to Millions."

Details on French's cause of death have not been made public at this time.
