The Greek islands aren't that far away after all thanks to a new restaurant that has just opened in Toronto.
Myth, a new concept from the same group who brought us The Citizen, has transformed the former nightclub into an authentic Greek dining experience.
The venue has officially opened its doors, and here's what you can expect to see at the new Greek oasis on King Street West.
The Space
Inside, the space is nearly unrecognizable, and you'll feel like you've arrived in Mykonos as soon as you step through the door.
"We have wanted to do this for a very long time," says Eileen Tsoumaris, co-owner of Myth. "When the shutdown happened we just thought it was a really great time, [...] we knew that we weren't going to be able to open throughout the winter, so we took the opportunity to transform and bring this concept to life."
Olive trees, vases from Greece and elaborate murals can be found throughout the space, and many of the pieces are actually in tribute to Tsoumaris's family history.
Tsoumaris says that the first Myth opened in 1994 on the Danforth and that the new location is all about "reinvent[ing] a modern Myth."
The most eye-catching part of the interior is the ceiling, where long spokes run from the centre of the room all the way to the walls, mimicking sunbeams.
There's an area with booths that will eventually host large dinner parties and a space near the back for events with DJs and dancing.
Outside, light fixtures hang over the covered patio and long grass adds to the beachy vibe. It may not be exactly like the shores of Mykonos, but hey, it's close enough.
The Food
The menu is full of classic Aegean flavours and features a variety of meze dishes (an assortment of small plates) and mains.
The colourful meze platter is a must-try when ordering a starter, and it comes with three different dips, tapenade, and pita. The bright pink Beet Hummus comes topped with crumbled pistachio and pomegranate seeds.
The Grilled Octopus is another menu item to have on your radar. The outside is perfectly crunchy while the inside is delightfully soft.
The Lamb Chops seem to melt in your mouth with a burst of flavour, and the Horiatiki Salata (tomato salad) is full of crisp, fresh goodness.
The Drinks
Arguably the most important part of any meal, the drinks are something you'll want to snap some photos of before taking a sip.
The Ilios is an entire experience in and of itself, as it arrives in a large bowl with steam flowing over the sides.
There is a large selection of Greek wines, as well as cocktails inspired by mythology.
If you like watermelon, give the Karpouzi a try, as it has those fruity flavours uniquely complemented with a sprinkle of black pepper.
"With everything that happened, we're really excited about this and to just bring a new way of dining and a new way of gathering with friends," says Tsoumaris.
