It has arrived. The new Toronto sign graced the city with its presence this Friday, and it looks so fancy. The glorious new installation is accompanied by artwork celebrating people of African descent.

The sign made a comeback this Friday after being torn down last week.

The original structure has been replaced with a more durable version.

The Toronto sign's reappearance comes with some new artistic upgrades like a brand new vinyl wrap on the outer edges of the letters.

The project is called "Patterns of the People" and was designed by Toronto-based artist, designer and curator, Danilo Deluxo McCallum.

The artwork stands to represent the United Nations’ International Decade for People of African Descent, with accompanying images to celebrate and represent people from Africa as well as the Indigenous peoples of Canada.

The sign is standing alongside an Indigenous medicine wheel, as well as a maple leaf.

"This new and more durable Toronto Sign will ensure that it continues to be part of our city’s landscape for years to come," said Mayor John Tory in a news release.

"I am pleased to see that as part of the unveiling of our new sign, the first wrap will recognize the International Decade for People of African Descent."

According to a news release, the wrap will be refreshed once every 12 months, and "is used to promote events, projects and City priorities."

“My Patterns of the People artwork for the new Toronto Sign explores African Fabric Patterns, symbols, such as the Adinkra bird and the Black fist, and portraiture to recognize and celebrate the richness of the Black community in Toronto and across Canada," said McCallum.

"As a diverse global city I feel it shows leadership and sends a powerful message to the international community around accountability, equity and representation. We are Toronto."

However, the new artwork isn't the only change the sign has gone through.

The new letters are also easier to clean and is waterproof, allowing it to stand the test of time.
