The residents, who lived in Cabbagetown, have started a GoFundMe to help pay for the private security patrol.

The fundraiser, which has raised $2,715, has the overarching goal of $10,000.

The private security guard, who is reportedly trained in both CPR and first aid, costs $205 per night.

The guard is meant to help prevent break-ins, overdoses and other crimes in the area.

If the current goal is reached the group will pay for security "two random nights" a week for six months.

However, the organizers hoped to eventually raise over $70K to hire security for seven nights a week for one year.

Mayor John Tory told CP24 on Thursday that, although the problems in Cabbagetown are pressing, private security should never replace a police service.
