The best part is, you don't need a car in order to reach this beautiful summer destination. VIA Rail offers trips from Toronto and it takes just an hour to get there.

With historic architecture, cute local shops, galleries, a scenic waterfront and more, this small town is a magical spot to spend a summer day or two.

Cobourg is a charming waterfront community located on the shores of Lake Ontario that dates back to the 1790s. It's an hour and 20 minute drive from the city, or an hour away by VIA Rail.

The town is known for its white sand beach, which is a "hot spot" during the summer according to the website.

You'll "swear you're sitting somewhere ocean-side in the Caribbean" as you relax on the sandy shore and gaze across the sparkling waves.

The beach is complete with retro-style lifeguard stations and a winding boardwalk.

It's about a 20 minute walk from the train station, making it easily accessible for visitors.
