Residents of a Toronto neighbourhood are taking a stand against Metrolinx's Yonge North Subway Extension.

The transit project, which will reportedly travel underneath homes in the Royal Orchard Boulevard area, has been met with backlash from community members, who argue it will have a "profoundly negative impact" on the neighbourhood.

Markham Councillor Keith Irish launched an online petition in March to reject Metrolinx's proposed alignment of the subway.

A GoFundMe has also raised over $13,000 to support efforts to persuade the government to choose an alternative route.

Currently, there are three options in the works for how the subway extension will look once completed. However, Metrolinx says that the option that will run under the Royal Orchard neighbourhood is less costly.
