3 Planets Will Be Visible In The Night Sky This Week Creating A Rare Astronomical Event

During Christmas week, the night sky dazzled star-gazers with a rare "great conjunction" when Saturn and Jupiter came together to create the "Christmas Star".

Now, a few weeks later, space will continue to blow our minds when Mercury, Saturn, and Jupiter are all visible in the night sky on January 9 and 10.

The three planets will form a triangle in the sky creating a rare "triple conjunction."

The action will take place about 30 minutes after sunset when the sky gets dark and you'll need to look just above the west-southwest horizon to spot the phenomenon. 

Jupiter — the brightest planet — will be visible first, followed by Mercury and finally, by Saturn — the dimmest planet. 

Binoculars will come in handy in order to see this celestial event best, and keep your fingers crossed for clear skies.

The most spectacular nights will be January 9 and 10, but it's worth looking for the trio on January 8 and 11 as well if you missed it or if the weather obstructed your view. 

If you still happen to miss it, don't worry — as rare as it may be, there will also be a triple conjunction of the same three planets in February.
