Two People Have Died After A Violent Incident At The US Capitol

The suspect rammed his car into a Capitol barricade earlier this afternoon.

One U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) officer has died following an attempted attack on the Capitol at around 1 p.m. on Friday.

According to Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman, the suspect rammed a blue sedan into a barricade on Capitol grounds, striking two USCP officers, before emerging from the vehicle wielding a knife.

Both Capitol Police officers struck by the vehicle were transported to the hospital and one of them has "succumbed to his injuries."

The Capitol Campus was then immediately locked down — the suspect was fatally shot by a USCP officer after he ran towards them with the knife, according to a new update on the incident. 

Neither the victims nor the suspect has been identified, and authorities have said that there is no ongoing threat. The investigation remains ongoing.
