RCMP Broke Up Over 1,000 Canucks' Fans Partying In The Streets This Weekend (VIDEO)

Police in Surrey have been busy. On Monday, August 24, Surrey RCMP announced that over 1,000 Canucks' fans took to the streets to celebrate the team's latest win. The celebrations took place on Friday, August 21, and some tickets were even dished out at the scene. 

In an email sent to Narcity, Surrey RCMP said that a large number of Canucks' fans failed to follow COVID-19 protocols.

"Unfortunately, a number of Canuck fans celebrating the team’s win on August 21 also chose to ignore physical distancing requirements when upwards of 1,000 people gathered at the corner of Scott Road and 72 Avenue," read the statement. 

Surrey RCMP was responding to the scene along with the Delta Police Department.

Due to the sheer size of the crowd that had gathered on the streets, the police divisions chose to focus on pedestrian and traffic safety. 

Seven tickets were given to fans due to "seat belt violations" as they were caught celebrating by hanging out of their vehicles' windows or sunroofs. 

"Canuck fans who gathered in large groups without masks on Friday night should consider this to be their warning," said Sergeant Roger Green of the COVID-19 Compliance and Enforcement Team at Surrey. 

Green went on to say that the police and the public aren't pleased with the fans' lack of physical distancing. 

The police "expect you do to better for the sake of your families, yourselves, and your fellow residents," said Green. 

As a result, Surrey and Delta police officers will be present at 72 Avenue and Scott Road following each Canucks' playoff game. 

"We are asking everyone to ensure that they are complying with COVID-19 public health orders while celebrating – this including no congregations of more than 50 people in one area, and maintaining physical distancing," said the statement. 

Multiple videos of the scenes at Scott Road and Surrey have emerged online. 

By Monday, August 21, it's safe to say that Canucks' fans weren't quite as celebratory as the Vancouver team suffered a bad 5-0 loss against the Vegas Golden Knights.
