A month-by-month fall forecast is out, revealing when the cold will come for B.C. and Alberta. The weather forecast is looking like a messy mix for the winter in Western Canada — but first, we have fall.

Old Farmer's Almanac has weekly and monthly breakdowns in its long-range weather forecast, predicting exactly when the cold will set in.

For southern B.C. September is set to be just above average in terms of temperature, with the start of the month sunny, before cooling down for a bit. The month should end with a few showers and "very warm weather"

October is continuing the warm trend, expected to be 2°C above average in temperature and starting out sunny and warm (there will also be a few showers in there, because it's fall in Vancouver, after all). Then there should be a bit of cool weather in the middle, but the month should also end with warm temperatures.

November is set to be 0.5°C below average temperature, with more than average rainfall in the south. It will kick off rainy as the weather turns cool, and go into sunny but chilly weather before the second week. The end of the month is set to have "snowy periods" and "very cold" weather, so brace yourself!

In the prairies – including Edmonton and Calgary — the season will also start out warm, with September set to be a little above average in temperature. Mid-September is expected to bring rain and thunderstorms, though, but things should end sunny and "very warm."

October is also going to be just above average in the Prairies, with sunny days in the forecast to start the month. There will be scattered rain mid-month, but things will turn sunny again. Towards the end of the month, flurries are predicted to hit the west, with dizzle in the east, as things turn chilly. It's short-lived, though, as the forecast predicts temperatures turning warm again at the end of the month.

November is set to be warmer than average by 2°C, but with above-average precipitation. The month should start out mild with a few showers, before the second week brings sunny and warm weather. Mid-month is when things get colder with flurries in the forecast — then things should turn mild briefly, before the month ends with "snowy periods," chilly weather in the east, and a "bitter cold west."

Enjoy the warm weather while you can – because the cold is coming!
