The Zeddy Wheel

Oh boy, to be small again and to take this for a spin.

You might remember this bad boy as the most intense ride a three-year-old could imagine. For only a loonie, you could take a spin on this sucker and it would be the most exhilarating thing you could possibly think of.

TikToker @meganzilney_ was lucky enough to experience the thrills as an adult, and OMG what we'd do to give the Zeddy Wheel another go.

The gumballs

In this clip you can see TikTok user @miasnofrills hanging out in an abandoned Zellers and coming upon a gumball machine. While it's not clear how long the candy has been there, it wouldn't be surprising if it's been there since the store closed.

What makes the person in the video particularly brave is that they popped in a quarter and grabbed a few gumballs. Eek!

The menu

The thing that really set Zellers apart from all the others? Well, it was the only department store that had a freakin' restaurant in it. Nothing was better than shopping for a few hours, then fuelling up at the Zellers diner.

This commercial posted by @zellers.commercials is even better with how dated the young-person talk is, plus the fact that it's an ad for the original Xbox.

Believe it or not, there was a time when Zellers was the one-stop shop for video games and electronics, and oh boy, does that make us feel old.

The Zeddy

Last but certainly not least, who could forget Zeddy?

Just a photo of him set to some music, like this TikTok from @daddyyc, is enough to rush in feelings and memories from our childhood. His cute, cuddly smile is similar to Proust's madeleines — it just brings us back to a time long gone.
