Calgary Opened The World's First Costco On First Nation Reserve Land

There's a new Costco in Alberta that is historic for a very special reason. 

Rick Wilson, the minister of Indigenous Relations in Alberta, announced on Friday, August 28, that the new location of Costco Calgary marks a milestone for an Indigenous community in the province and worldwide.

In his tweet, Wilson hailed the new location as an "amazing example of entrepreneurship" and said it will bring "much needed" employment and investment to Tsuut’ina as well as Calgary. 

On August 25, Premier Jason Kenney revealed that Alberta's facing a deficit of over $20 billion and has been the hardest hit economy in all of Canada.

The Southwest Calgary Costco is one of three new locations in Canada, with the others being in Gloucester, Ontario, and Sherbrooke, Quebec.
