The country's leading health official has shared another update about COVID-19 in Canada.

In a tweet on January 11, Dr. Theresa Tam confirmed that Canada’s COVID-19 infection rates remain high “across many regions.”

The next months will be difficult as we continue on a trajectory of strong resurgence with emergence of new virus variants of concern.

She revealed that 7,819 new positive tests were confirmed on Sunday, alongside 117 new deaths and an increase in hospitalizations and ICU figures.

In a follow-up message, the top doctor admitted that the next few months in Canada “will be difficult.”

She said the country continues on a “trajectory of strong resurgence,” acknowledging that new variants of COVID-19 are a concern to public health officials.

Despite this, Dr. Tam told Canadians to continue to follow public health guidelines, as “the way #COVID19 spreads has not changed.”

Back in December, Justin Trudeau shared a video that shows how COVID-19 continues to spread.

At the time, he urged everybody to “stop scrolling” and watch the clip, before pleading with Canadians to download the government’s COVID-19 alert app.
