An Ontario man is facing numerous charges after allegedly abusing a raccoon in his basement.\nAccording to Halton Police, the suspect was charged after officers searched his home on Wednesday and discovered the animal.\nEditor's Choice: Ontario Will Be Slammed With Up To 20 cm Of Snow, Strong Winds & Freezing Temps Today\n\n\n\n“\n\n\nA racoon was located in a locked cage inside the residence. \n\n\nHalton Regional Police Service \n\n\nThe investigation was launched after police received a tip that the individual had been mistreating the critter.\nA search warrant was obtained after additional information about multiple electrical and fire code violations was reported. \n"With the assistance of the Burlington Fire Department, Animal Control and EMS, officers entered the residence and arrested a 55-year-old male," police reported.\nThe animal was rescued from the building but had to be euthanized due to the condition of its health. \nThe man has been charged with causing damage or injury to an animal, breaching release order, mischief over $5000 and keeping live game wildlife in captivity.\nAnyone with further information on the case is being asked to contact police at 905-825-4777 ext. 2342.\n*Cover photo used for illustrative purposes only.
