The EU Just Recommended Lifting All Travel Restrictions For Canadians & Americans
Vacations to Europe could be just around the corner! 👇✈️
The European Union is recommending that travel restrictions for Canadians be lifted which would allow non-essential travel to restart between Canada and Europe.
In a notice shared on July 1, the European Council announced that Canada, among other countries, should be added to a list of states approved for discretionary travel.
Among the other countries included in the recommendation were Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Thailand and the United States.
Although the 27 E.U. member states are advised to gradually lift travel restrictions for the new countries on the list, this is not a requirement.
"The Council recommendation is not a legally binding instrument," the notice explains. "The authorities of the member states remain responsible for implementing the content of the recommendation."
This means it's up to each individual country to ultimately decide whether they want to invite Canadians and Americans to take non-essential trips there.
More information about exactly where Canadians will be given the go-ahead to visit is expected over the next few weeks.
The Government of Canada continues to advise against all non-essential trips abroad, including for fully vaccinated Canadians.
