The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Health Canada have recently published several notifications about food recalls and warnings for foods sold across the country, so it's time to check what items you have in your home.
According to the CFIA and Nestle Canada, the latest food recalls in Canada are due to rubber, mould, bacteria and more.
If you think you've become sick from consuming a recalled product, the CFIA advises you to contact your healthcare provider. They also suggest checking your home to see if you have the affected items, and if you do, to not "consume, serve, use, sell, or distribute recalled products."
Here are the latest recalls you need to be aware of:
Enfamil brand Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic (infant formula)
On December 31, a food recall warning was issued for Enfamil brand Nutramigen A+ LGG Hypoallergenic (infant formula) sold nationally due to possible Cronobacter sakazakii contamination.
"Food contaminated with Cronobacter sakazakii may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick," advises the CFIA. "Although Cronobacter sakazakii is not commonly linked to human illness, in rare cases it can cause serious or fatal infections. Cronobacter sakazakii can cause rare bloodstream and central nervous system infections and has been associated with severe intestinal infection (necrotizing enterocolitis) and blood poisoning (sepsis), especially in newborns."

Various brands of gorgonzola truffle cheese

On December 28, a food recall warning was issued for various brands of gorgonzola truffle cheese sold in Alberta and B.C. due to possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
The two brands affected are:
- Le Grand Fromage
- Springbank Cheese Co.
"Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness," says the CFIA. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

Factor brand Parmesan Pesto Chicken with Steamed Spinach, Roasted Green Beans & Grape Tomatoes
On December 22, a food recall warning was issued for Factor brand Parmesan Pesto Chicken with Steamed Spinach, Roasted Green Beans & Grape Tomatoes sold in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontario, P.E.I. and Quebec due to undercooking.
"Undercooked food may contain bacterial pathogens which can make you sick," says the CFIA.

On December 19, a notification was issued for Nestlé KitKat brand Scary Friends Mini-Bars due to pieces of rubber.
