One of Canada's newest political parties will be on the ballot in Ontario. Maxime Bernier and the People's Party of Canada are back and trying to get elected to Parliament.

Bernier, who is the leader of the party, announced that he will be running in the York Centre by-election that's happening later this month.

Another candidate from the party, Baljit Bawa, will be trying to get elected in the Toronto Centre riding.

Some commentators predicted or hoped that we would disappear after last year's result.

During the announcement, Bernier said that the People's Party of Canada is here to stay and the only party with a clear message.

He called the effects of COVID-19 lockdowns on the economy and people's health "disastrous."

Bernier also took shots at the Liberals, Conservatives and the NDP.

The by-elections in York Centre and Toronto Centre will happen on October 26.

Both Bernier and Bawa didn't get elected in the 2019 federal election and nobody from the People's Party of Canada won a seat in Parliament.

"Some commentators predicted or hoped that we would disappear after last year's result," Bernier said.

The party has plans to run candidates in every single riding in the next federal election.
